1909 Wisden Hardback – Lovely

This is a Lovely condition 1909 Wisden Hardback. The 46th edition.

This edition comes from the Diana Rait Kerr collection. Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the MCC Secretary from 1936 to 1952. His daughter Diana joined him at Lord’s after WW2 to help catalogue and arrange the MCC library. She eventually became Curator of the MCC museum. During her work at Lord’s she also wrote extensively for cricket publications and co-wrote books with Ian Peebles. She was also one of the first women to be offered MCC membership.
She inherited her fathers’ Wisden collection and also built her own.

The front board is super – it is strong and lacking any major bumping or page edge ageing. The gilt is lovely. The spine is also strong  and typically for an older edition there is some rubbing to the top and to the bottom, but it is quite minor. Again the spine gilt is super.

The rear board has some ageing across the centre but in the overall scheme of things I believe this to be light and quite negligible.
Internally the front and rear hinges are in splendid condition – and the paste down pages equally so.

The pages within are in very very good condition, some general ageing and some page edge ageing but again nothing too drastic.

The photo-plate is present and it is splendid, the facing tissue guard has a minor team to the top.

The page block is in good condition, this is a 114-year-old after all.
