1904 Wisden Hardback – Super

This is a Lovely Condition Original Hardback Wisden from 1904. The 41st edition of the almanack.

This edition comes from the Diana Rait Kerr collection. Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the MCC Secretary from 1936 to 1952. His daughter Diana joined him at Lord’s after WW2 to help catalogue and arrange the MCC library. She eventually became Curator of the MCC museum. During her work at Lord’s she also wrote extensively for cricket publications and co-wrote books with Ian Peebles. She was also one of the first women to be offered MCC membership.
She inherited her fathers’ Wisden collection and also built her own.

Uniquely this edition still retains the loose fly leaf advertisement that accompanied this almanack.

A Lovely 1904 Hardback Wisden. The boards are splendid – there is some slight bumping to the top and foot of the spine board, but in general the boards are splendid.

The gilt to the front and to the spine is excellent. This is highly unusual for early hardbacks.

Internally the front and rear hinges are very very good – there is some ageing and slight wear to the inside front and rear hinges, and some minor staining on the inside rear hinge – both hinges are firm. The paste down pages are in very very good condition, still retaining their brightness.

The rest of the pages within are rather lovely.

The page block is clean and in very nice condition  – after all this is a 119-year-old edition!
