1885 Wisden Paperback – Lovely

£700.00 £560.00

This is a Lovely condition 1885 Wisden Paperback edition. The twenty-second edition.

This edition comes from the Diana Rait Kerr collection. Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the MCC Secretary from 1936 to 1952. His daughter Diana joined him at Lord’s after WW2 to help catalogue and arrange the MCC library. She eventually became Curator of the MCC museum. During her work at Lord’s she also wrote extensively for cricket publications and co-wrote books with Ian Peebles. She was also one of the first women to be offered MCC membership.
She inherited her fathers’ Wisden collection and also built her own and when the set was offered to me I bought all 240+ editions.

The front wrapper is original and it is in lovely condition, there is some dustiness to the bottom right but this does not impact on any wording. Both the spine and the rear wrapper are professionally-made facsimiles and they are, as you would expect, stunning.

Internally the hinges and contents are in lovely+ condition, with very very little ageing throughout.

The page block is patterned and it is lovely.

Contents Include:
‘The Late John Wisden.”
Innings of 500 and upwards hit in 1884.
The Gentlemen of Philadelphia in England.
The Fourth Australian Team in England.
Birth and Death Dates of Cricketers.
Umpires – Where to find them.
