1892 Wisden Paperback – Very Good+ Condition and Unique
£575.00 £460.00
This is a Very Good+ condition 1892 Paperback Wisden. The 29th edition.
This edition comes from the Diana Rait Kerr collection. Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the MCC Secretary from 1936 to 1952. His daughter Diana joined him at Lord’s after WW2 to help catalogue and arrange the MCC library. She eventually became Curator of the MCC museum. During her work at Lord’s she also wrote extensively for cricket publications and co-wrote books with Ian Peebles. She was also one of the first women to be offered MCC membership.
She inherited her fathers’ Wisden collection and also built her own.
It is becoming a theme when I am writing the descriptions for the early Wisdens to re-iterate how scarce they are becoming and I do not apologise for this. It is a simple fact that more collectors are coming into the market and the rarer editions are becoming more difficult to find, especially in Very Very Good or better condition – this edition is in lovely+ condition.
The front and rear wrappers are in Very Very Good condition – some light ageing on each and minor diagonal crease lines on the front, but for a 130+-year-old edition the covers are very very good. At some stage the spine has been professionally restored and this process has enhanced and strengthened this edition.
There is ageing to the outside edges of some front and rear pages, resulting in minor speckling throughout. On the reverse of the photo-plate card there are lists of player names on the otherwise blank card. there is blotchiness on the photo-plate and facing tissue guard.
The page block is adusty and aged, generally it is good.
Contents Include:
Rules of County Cricket.
Five Great Bowlers.
The Development of Cricket.
The Bibliography of Cricket.
