1936 Wisden Hardback – UNIQUE

This is a Stunning condition 1936 Wisden Hardback. The 73rd edition.

Around 11 years ago I was fortunate to acquire a full set of Wisdens that came from the Rait Kerr family.  Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the secretary of the M.C.C. from 1936 until 1952 and upon his death in 1961 he bequeathed his full Wisden collection to his daughter, Diana Rait Kerr, who continued the collection until her death in 2012, she had also started a collection so a lot of years were duplicated. Diana was the first ‘unofficial’ MCC curator based at Lords and in later life she was one of the first ten females to be given MCC membership: she wrote extensively on cricket including a number of excellent books, two of which were written with Ian Peebles.

A number of the Wisdens from that collection have now come back into my possession and this particular one is in EXCEPTIONAL condition, it could be the best 1936 hardback I have seen in many many years.

The front and rear boards are excellent, with only very very minor  rubbing – the spine likewise, it is exceptional. The gilt to the front and the spine is dynamic.

Internally the inside front and inside rear hinges are stunning and the  adjacent yellow paste down pages equally so. The contents within are also splendid.

Even the page block is delightful.
