1944 Wisden Hardback – UNIQUE and Lovely Condition

This is a Lovely condition 1944  Wisden Hardback. The 81st edition.

This edition comes from the Diana Rait Kerr collection.
Rowan Scrope Rait Kerr was the MCC Secretary from 1936 to 1952. His daughter Diana joined him at Lord’s after WW2 to help catalogue and arrange the MCC library. She eventually became Curator of the MCC museum. During her work at Lord’s she also wrote extensively for cricket publications and co-wrote books with Ian Peebles. She was also one of the first women to be offered MCC membership.
She inherited her fathers’ Wisden collection and also built her own and when the set was offered to me I bought all 240+ edition. There were two 1942 almanacks within it: a soft back edition and a hardback edition.

The covers are in lovely condition – they are very bright and firm. The spine is also in very very good condition, again bright and firm  with no scuffing or rubbing. The gilt to the front is bright, the spine has dulled – this is very common on WW2 hardbacks.

Internally the front and rear hinges are strong and excellent and the pages within likewise.

The page block is super.
